Fine art nature photography: Adirondacks, wildflowers and more.
Rainbow Lake New York

I have always had a love for nature. As a child we would hike as a family. My father was well versed in the woods and would point out small wonders - then explain them in more detail then I could understand at the time. He also loved his gardens and his flowers. Whether in the woods or in the garden, the pleasure he took in looking and looking closely was infectious. He also inspired my interest in photography. I developed my first pictures in his basement darkroom.

As an "adult" nature has become, for me, a reflection of spirit and aesthetics. In 1990 my spouse (Rosemary) and I moved from Chicago to the Adirondack Park in northern New York. Living in the heart of this wild, mountainous, lake filled region has been wondrous! Photography as a means of expression and exploration is my art. My wife, an artist herself, is my consultant. She has enhanced my appreciation for the beauty in the world and the artistic representation of nature's spirit.

At this point I am an aspiring fine art nature photographer. I need to do other things with most of my time, but I love the time I can devote to photography. Digitalization has facilitated the process, giving me more control over my productions from camera to print. Several of my favorites though are still from the film and slide days and were converted to digital files. My subjects include the Adirondacks, especially the details often overlooked. Wildflowers in their natural places are particularly compelling. "Rosemary's garden" has also afforded opportunities to explore floral variations. Other places are also represented in my work. When I travel it is usually to explore other wild and often remote places. I have my brother (Mark) to thank for choosing spectacular Rocky Mountain destinations.

I have begun to pursue more avenues to show my work. A photograph was recently published in The Sequel, a publication of Paul Smith's College (Fall 2006 issue).  Pieces have been exhibited at juried mixed-media art shows in Plattsburgh (North Country Cultural Center for the Arts), Saranac Lake (Adirondack Artists Guild Gallery), Lake Placid (Lake Placid Center for the Arts) and Malone (For Arts Sake Gallery), New York. One piece was also selected for inclusion in the Arts Council for the Northern Adirondacks touring "Public Spaces" exhibit.  I also shown and sold works in several venues and on the internet.

My goal is to capture the emotional and visual essence of a few of nature's beautiful moments; and then share this experience through photographic art.
